"One Page or Two?"

Donald Asher, author of Asher's Bible of Executive Resumes & How to Write Them, and writer of more than 10,000 executive resumes says this about resumes in general and specifically, executive resumes.

"I have no problem with a 2 or sometimes even 3 page resume, if the candidate's background and accomplishments warrant it. When they try to cram too much on a 1 page resume they end up reducing the font size and if they fax it you can't read it most of the time. Also for more seasoned or highly talented people there is no way they can give you a good idea of what they have done in just one page, they always end up leaving too much out and if the resume has no substance then I just toss it."
Mark Gillespie, Certified Senior Account Manager
Management Recruiters/Sales Consultants of Arlington Heights

"Readability is more important than length - I would rather read a 2 page resume than a one pager crammed full of stuff - On senior career people I usually suggest they focus on the last 5-7 years accomplishments and scale back on older experience - a shorter & better resume often results."
Pari

"Two page resumes are just fine, and I read them all of the time. Somebody with 20 years experience almost has to use 2 pages and sometimes two and one half. It is best to try to limit the to 2 pages whenever possible though."
Tom

"As a technical recruiter, two pages are okay if the person does not have a lot of job hopping, the resume is easy to read, there are meaningful accomplishments to list, and significant work responsibilities. If a person has 20 years experience, definitely include as much pertinent, must-see information on the first page and mostly factual dates, positions, and company information on the second page..."
A. Williams

"Two page resumes are ideal for those with significant career progression... ie. Manager, AVP Manager, VP Manager ...One page resumes are still desired because of the volume of responses to open positions. A trained hiring manager or recruiter will look for specific "current" experience and usually will only take time to look at an additional resume page if the candidate has the type of skills and experience to be a "match" or "possible match" for the open position. If they appear to, then the second page is of interest in order to complete the history of the candidate."

I am an executive recruiter with over 10 years of experience. I definitely would review a 2 page resume; furthermore, I find that many seasoned professionals are not able adequately present themselves with only a one page resume.
